The Ohio Development Services Agency has announced a second year of funding for the Ohio Incumbent Worker Training Voucher Program. This funding ($27 million) will be for training done between August 1, 2013 and June 30, 2014. We have helped companies with the registration process and trained employees in various modules of employee improvement.
Applications for the grant program will be accepted for review on September 30, 2013 beginning at 10 a.m.
The program is designed to offset a portion of the employer’s costs to upgrade the skills of its incumbent workforce and will provide up to a 50% reimbursement to eligible employers for specific training costs accrued during training.
An eligible employer must be a for-profit entity in a state-designated target industry with a facility located in Ohio that has been in continuous operation for the 12 months immediately prior to the application submittal. The targeted industries are:
- Advanced Manufacturing
- Aerospace and Aviation
- Back Office
- Corporate Headquarters
- Financial Services
- Food Processing
- Information Technology and Services
- Polymers and Chemicals
- Research and Development
The program provides a reimbursement, up to $4,000 per employee per fiscal year, against qualified training costs. Eligible employers will be capped at the amount of voucher funding they will be eligible to receive in a fiscal year, with the maximum totaling $250,000.
Lean, Six Sigma as well as computer training are topics covered in the grant. Soft skills and Leadership training are not included. If it is a training that will improve the efficiency and productivity of the workforce, it may be covered.
The training must be completed by June 30, 2014.
The application can be completed prior to the September 30 deadline. The application can be submitted on Sept. 30 at 10:00 a.m.. Employers interested in participating and applying for the second year of funding should begin to gather their training plans and details for the application immediately. Strategic Leadership would be happy to help you with the application.
Since the money will be exhausted quickly, submit as close to 10:00 a.m. as possible on September 30. Funding last year was exhausted on the first day the application opened. Additional information can be found here.
