What is Coaching?
What’s the image that most quickly comes to mind? Someone like the man in the picture above? Actually, that probably isn’t a bad image. A coach — and we’ve probably all had someone that functioned in that kind of role at some point in our lives — helps you focus your strengths and skills on the task at hand so that you have the best chance possible of achieving the success you desire. In the business realm, we focus on interpersonal skills, job performance and other personal development strategies. We can help you clarify your goals and values, eliminate wasted activities, and focus your energies so that you become more effective at what you do.
Who Works With a Coach?
Business owners, top- or mid-level managers, entrepreneurs, people in transition and other kinds of professionals are examples of those who most typically work with a coach. You are probably ready for coaching if you:
See a gap between where you are and where you want to be, and are uncertain about how to bridge it
Have been told that your people skills need some work
Find yourself reacting emotionally in ways that prove to be non-productive
Are new to a leadership role, and uncertain about how to effectively lead
Are willing to learn, grow and take action
How Does This Work?
You set up a schedule with your certified leadership coach, usually twice a month (maybe more frequently). We connect by phone or in person for about 45 minutes each time, focusing on your goals and your agenda. We don’t bring a “canned” program into these sessions. Your coach will listen, give feedback, help clarify, ask questions and guide you as discover and set goals that are both reasonable and challenging. You will probably have an assignment or two to work on before the next session. Everything is confidential, of course.
